Grant Opportunity for Virginia Educators

The Alleghany Foundation offers funding opportunities for initiatives aimed at moving the area’s schools systems (local public schools and community college) forward from “Good to Great.”

Specifically, the foundation’s Educational Attainment Grant aims to build the human capital base for a new economy that provides all Alleghany Highlands residents with a fair chance of success.

Through this grant, the foundation seeks to support development in the following areas:

Early Childhood Development
Desired Outcome: In keeping with the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, every child is prepared for school, laying the foundation for school, workforce and life success.

K-12 Public Education through Alleghany County Public Schools and Covington City Public Schools
Desired Outcome: Great public education in the Alleghany Highlands and graduates who are equipped to successfully transition into higher education, the 21st century workplace, and lifelong citizenship.

Post-secondary education through local efforts and in partnership with Dabney S. Lancaster Community College
Desired Outcome: To provide adult population with access to an affordable, flexible, and highly effective post-secondary system so that workers are prepared to meet the needs of the 21st century workplace and a rapidly changing economy.

Eligibility:
Grants are awarded to organizations that are tax-exempt under the IRS Section 501(c)(3) and are not private foundations as described under Section 509(a). Priority is given to organizations serving the Alleghany County, Covington, and Clifton Forge areas with an emphasis on new and different endeavors to improve the community’s quality of life.

Special consideration will be given to applications that demonstrate the ability to leverage Foundation funding with public and other ongoing financial support. (The Foundation wants to be a catalyst for projects but not replace other public or private funding sources.)

Grant Reporting:
The Foundation requires a status reports for all approved projects on a quarterly basis (March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31) until the project has been completed.
