The National Science Foundation’s Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) grants are a great opportunity for educators to increase awareness of STEM occupations among PreK-12 students.
The grants support programs that
- increase student awareness of STEM occupations;
- motivate students to pursue appropriate education pathways to STEM occupations; and
- develop disciplinary-based knowledge and practices, or promote critical thinking, reasoning skills, or communication skills needed for entering STEM workforce sectors
Your proposed programs can be designed for engaging students within school, outside of school, or a combination of both. NSF also strongly encourages partnerships between PreK-12 schools, colleges, universities and industry.
The awards this year are expected to total $10 million to $20 million, with individual awards ranging from $400,000 to $2 million apiece. There are three types of grants available:
Up to 4 two-year Exploratory grants of up to $400,000 each
Exploratory projects advance theory or examine associations among malleable factors that influcence learning, moderating conditions, and educational outcomes.
Up to 12 three-year Strategies grants work up to $1.2 million each
Strategies projects address the initial design, development, and implementation of innovative technology-related interventions.
Up to 2 three- to five- year Successful Project Expansion and Dissemination (SPrEaD) grants of up to $2 million each
SPrEaD projects support the further examination and broader implementation of interventions that have demonstrated evidence of impact. SPrEaD projects may build on efforts previously initiated through a Strategies project, or prior work supported through other means.
