Our President and CEO Ron Baddock recently sat down with CBS Baltimore to talk about leadership, the importance of continuing education in his career, and advice for others in the field.

His advice also applies to students entering the job market in the near future. Here’s a sampling of what he had to say:

Establish a Long Term Plan

Think of your work as a career and not just a job. While you should certainly set daily goals and objectives for yourself, it’s important to always remember the bigger picture. What is the end goal and how are your short term goals driving you in the right direction?

Don’t Lose Focus

Your career is a continuum. If you want to be consistently successful, you can’t take mental time off for extended periods. It is okay to take a few breaks every now and again, but don’t let yourself get distracted from your long term goals.

Stay Curious

It’s important to invest in yourself, your education and your personal growth.

Here at Amtek, the technology industry is constantly changing. To be successful, our business has to keep up. Our partner manufacturers offer both sales and product training every year, and all of our employees take advantage of those opportunities as often as they can.

Work on your professional knowledge and skills every day until it is time for you to retire. Persistence beats talent!
