New Thingiverse Developer Program for Customization and Printing

MakerBot recently launched the Thingiverse Developer Program. This new program allows developers to create apps for the MakerBot community on www.thingiverse.com through new APIs (customization apps, print apps and tools/utilities apps, etc.)

With the launch comes two new apps:

  • 3D Hubs App — This essentially allows you to order 3D printed parts directly from Thingiverse. If you’re an educator who does not have a 3D printer yet, you can order single prints to use in your classroom to help justify the case for a 3D printer investment.
  • Make Printable App — This is a mesh repair and analyizing appication that lets you see if there are any problems with a mesh before you print a design.

What exactly does this mean for educators? Depending on the new apps developers come up with, time will tell.

Essentially this new program will help enhance your experience sharing, customizing, preparing, and printing your designs.
