Introducing a Desktop Wire Bender for the Classroom

We are excited to announce that Amtek Company now carries the DIWire Bender from Pensa Labs, the first desktop wire bender.

We love the DIWire Bender because it was originally offered as an open-source project when Pensa Labs detected strong interest within the maker community. Pensa then launched a Kickstarter campaign to help make its desktop device available to the masses.

What’s the idea behind the DIWire Bender?

To bend a wire into virtually any 2-D shape you can imagine. These shapes can then be soldered or clipped together to create 3D structures from galvanized steel, aluminum, and brass. Here’s how it works:

This is a great tool for maker spaces, fabrication labs, architecture programs, middle or high school TechEd, engineering or robotics classrooms, and even for set design in theater departments.

That’s because the DIWire integrates well with laser cutters, CNC routers and 3D printers so that students can dream big but create easily.

One of the things we really like about Pensa Labs is their online community sharing site that has a variety of seed files to get you started bending. Each “Bendsday” project comes complete with bend files, instructions, and material needs, which makes them easy to fit into any your existing curriculum or lesson plans.
