MakerBot Student Virtual Prototyping Design Challenge

MakerBot recently announced its first ever student design challenge.

What’s great about this challenge is the relevancy in real work applications for your students themselves. Students must create a desk organizer or component that classmates would be able to use to make learning from home easier. This could be an organizer for a makeshift desk, an object to keep all your writing utensils in place, or something to help you stay on top of all your school tasks.

Similar to the NeuroMaker prosthetics challenge we wrote about last week, this is another great STEM student challenge that can be completed entirely remotely. No matter if your students are learning from home, in the classroom or a mix of both, all students are welcomed to join the competition.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Fill out this form to get a link to MakerBot’s exclusive challenge.
  2. Share the emailed link with your students.
    • Students can create their design using their preferred CAD program.
    • Students save their design as an .STL and upload to Thingiverse.
  3. After a student has uploaded their design on Thingiverse, fill out this Google form with your student’s Thingiverse link. (This will help us connect YOU to your student’s submission)

Deadline: September 21st, 2020 at 11:59PM PDT

MakerBot will print the top 3 student finalists’ designs where their designs will be judged live by a panel of MakerBot judges. Even better? Prizes will be given to both the winning students and their teachers.
