[one_half valign=”top” animation=”none”]

We’re excited to introduce all of our customers and friends to the newest addition to the Amtek team — Rob Llano! Rob has been with us for several months now so we figured it would be a good time to let you all get to know him a little bit better.

If you ever want to get a better handle on his expertise, feel free to check out his blog commentary here.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m married with 2 little girls, 6 and 4, and a dog. I graduated from The University of Maryland where I majored in Supply Chain Management and Marketing. After college I worked for UPS, then Pepsi, then Amazon. Immediately prior to Amtek I worked for a small accounting company doing personal taxes as well as some bookkeeping and payroll.

Tell us about your role at Amtek.

I am a sales and technical support specialist. So my day to day duties would involve anything from unloading a trailer at a customer site to building furniture to helping diagnose issues with customer equipment or repairing said equipment. We do installation and training for teachers. I also assist customers in finding solutions for their programs by consulting with them and advising them on our current products as well as industry trends.

What are some of your favorite product lines Amtek has to offer? Why?

I don’t know where to start! All of them are cool! I was first trained on the Universal Laser cutter. That was a pretty cool experience for me.  I love being able to design something and then cut it out with lightning! To that end, the Roland print/cut systems have been a large part of what I’ve done recently, and I’ve made all kinds of projects. Our 3D printers are cool because you can design something and in just a short time, have your design realized and then tweak and improve it. Then you have all our automotive stuff.

I’m a wrench guy so I like cars, motorcycles, boats, anything that can go! So for me all our automotive and welding trainers and simulators are fun to play with. I think it would be really difficult for me to pick one absolute favorite product line.

We’ve noticed you’ve already spent a lot of time tinkering with our technologies and equipment. What are some your favorite projects you’ve worked on so far?

I spend a lot of time tinkering, that is true. I’ve designed and printed a bunch of little trinkets and gadgets to use. That’s a cool process because once you design something, you can print it out and actually hold your design. You can look at it, test it, refine it, and print it again.  There are so many designs on my computer that end in “v2”.  So I really like that process a lot. I’ve also made some amazing canvas prints of my daughters, which now hang in the house.

If I really had to pick one, it would be the 3D printed water tower I designed and made. My daughter is really into water towers. We point them out every time we’re in the car. But they don’t make water tower toys for kids, except for small ones for model trains, so we designed one in SolidWorks and printed it out. It even had her name on the side. She loves it and carries it everywhere. We even took it on vacation this summer! That was a lot of fun because of the joy that we were able to bring to my kids.

Who inspires you?

My kids and wife, my parents, and siblings. My kids never cease to amaze me. Every day they learn and grow so much and I try to take that as a reminder for me to do the same. My wife manages to keep our whole life together. I couldn’t do it without her! I’ve always said if I could be half as good a parent as mine were that I’d be lucky. They’ve done and continue to do so much for us and the rest of our family. My siblings too. My brother’s a professional runner, my sister and brother-in-law both work demanding, full-time jobs and still manage to raise my amazing little niece. My other sister has found a great career and is always traveling and enjoying great food and company. Also, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

How do like to spend your free time?

What’s that? 😉 In my free time we do stuff with the kids as a family — swimming lessons, gymnastics, basketball, and things of that nature. Most weeks I’ll be doing something on one of the many cars I’m tasked with maintaining, whether it’s brakes, or oil, or just a simple wash and wax. I like to play hockey and bowl, and go to the gym.

How can Amtek customers reach you?

Email is great because I’m in there every day and even if I’m busy I can see it — or my cell. rob@amtekcompany.com or 443-346-3523.
