PHOTOS: Inside Our 3D Printing in the Classroom Roadshow

Our 3D Printing in the Classroom across Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland last week was a huge success!

Stratasys Education Manager Jesse Roitenberg and Stratasys Applications Engineer Mac Cameron hit the road with us to talk about the latest technologies, materials and applications for 3D printing in education. We also had a great line up of speakers at each location:

At Tidewater Community College, Thomas Stout, Dean of Languages, Mathematics, and Sciences, talked about establishing industry partnerships have established an elevated program that allows students to see 3D printing at work in the real world.

At New River Community College, Engineering Design Technology Program Head and Instructor Jeff Levy showcased some of the 3D printed parts from his engineering class that among other topics, focuses on aircraft and drone design.

We were privileged to have two speakers at Charlottesville High School, including Physics Teacher Matt Shields, who talked about a new engineering elective open to all students no matter their grade/age and how he’s developed the curriculum for the course. Also, Dwight Dart, University of Virginia Design Lab Engineer, showcased designs from his school’s mechanical and aerospace engineering program, ranging from jewelry to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

At BridgeValley Community & Technical College’s Advanced Technology Center, Amanda McClellan, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of Drafting & Design Engineering Technology, demonstrated the design process taught in her drafting courses and discussed how 3D printing has created avenues for STEM outreach in the community.

At The University of Maryland,  Jim Zahniser explained the creation of the school’s Terrapin Works organization, which makes 3D printing capabilities available to all students, and offered tours of one of the school’s newest fabrication labs.

Thank you to SolidWorks for donating a copy of SolidWorks Student Edition for every attendee.

I received the solidworks student edition at the presentation, but have been unable to get it to work. I have tried it two computers with no success.
