Stratasys 3D Printing Design Contest for Students Is Back!

It’s that time of year again. The call for entries for the Stratasys 12th Annual Extreme Redesign 3D Printing Challenge is officially open!

Many of the rules are the same as years past. Individual students or two-person teams must create designs using 3D CAD software that adheres to each category (listed below).

Each submission must have design files in .STL format sent to Stratasys, along with a written description (minimum 200 words) and/or a 30-second video explaining the value and benefit of the Extreme Redesign model.

What’s new this year? A bonus category for all age divisions called “Make a Difference.” Students are invited to create or modify a design that can make a difference in the world, like making an impact socially or economically, adding environmental friendliness, or increasing efficiency.

Here’s an overview of everything you can expect this year:

Contest Categories:

  • Art and architecture (any grade level)
  • Engineering: Post-Secondary (university, college or post-secondary)
  • Engineering: Secondary Education (middle and high school)
  • Bonus Category: Make a Difference (any grade level)

Deadline: February 4, 2016

Judging Criteria:

Entries should be mechanically sound, realistic and achievable, and will be judged based on:

  • Mechanical design and part integrity
  • Compelling description (written and/or video)
  • Creative design
  • Product usefulness
  • Aesthetic appeal (art and architecture category)

Prizes:

  • $2,500 to 1st place in each category
  • $1,000 to 2nd place in each category
  • $1,500 to the winner of the “Make a Difference” bonus category
