The Unexpected Reason Your UV Flatbed Printer Isn’t Working

The LEF-300 UV Flatbed Printer from Roland offers students countless customization and printing possibilities. It enables direct printing on a wide range of materials like metal, glass, wood and canvas.

Roland recently heard from a customer whose white ink from their LEF Series printer was no longer adhering properly to the plastic they were attempting to print on. While no mechanical issues were detected, the adhesion problem persisted. Why? The material was too cold!

Condensation develops from the cold substrates and the heat of the UV-LED lamps. The condensation can have a “clumping” effect that can cause problems for print adhesion, most specifically with white ink, as it has the heaviest properties of the EUV inks.

That’s why it’s important to make sure your material is room temperature before using your printer.

Roland recommends that both the material you plan to print on and the printer itself (even when it’s not in use) should be kept at a temperature of 5°C to 40°C (41°F to 104°F), and that a relative humidity of 20% to 80% RH (with no condensation) should be maintained.
