Tuesday Tutorial: Make a Simple Sign with a CNC Machine – Part 1

Did you miss the CNC Machine workshop we hosted a couple weeks ago? Or need help following along with your own project now that you’re trying it at school?

This month, we recap one of the projects we completed during that workshop. In this two-part series, we focus on creating a design in QuickCAM 2D with VCarve, creating the machining plans, and posting the code out to VR Milling 5.

You’ll need all of the below items for the full series, but in thsi video, you’ll only need the QuickCAM 2D software with VCarve.

What you’ll need:

  • QuickCAM 2D with VCarve
  • Denford 2600 Pro Router (or any other CNC router of your choice)
  • V-cutter (we’re using a 60 degree cutter)
  • 1 block of wood (100mm x 100mm)
  • 1 can of spray paint (color of your choice)
  • a tarp or piece of cardboard for spray painting

Estimated project time: 2 hours total (30 minutes for Part 1; 1 hour 30 minutes for Part 2)

Check back next month for Part 2!
