Tuesday Tutorial: Make a Simple Sign with a CNC Machine – Part 2

This month we’re continuing on with our Tuesday Tutorial dedicated to showing you how to make a simple sign with a CNC machine (the same project we taught in the CNC Machine workshop we hosted back in March).

In Part 1, we showed you how to design a simple sign in QuickCAM 2D Design with V-Carve. Today, we’re sending it to a Denford 2600 Pro Router to be made.

This tutorial includes step-by-step instructions on the CAD design tools as well as the CAM Wizard in QuickCAM, and teaches the basics of using a Denford machine. You will learn to connect to the machine in VR Milling, jog the machine, change tools, set work offsets, then run the part.

What you’ll need:

  • QuickCAM 2D with VCarve
  • Denford 2600 Pro Router (or any other CNC router of your choice)
  • V-cutter (we’re using a 60 degree cutter)
  • 1 block of wood (100mm x 100mm)
  • 1 can of spray paint (color of your choice)
  • a tarp or piece of cardboard for spray painting

Estimated project time: 2 hours total (30 minutes for Part 1; 1 hour 30 minutes for Part 2)

Let us know how your own projects turn out in the comments section below.

UPDATE: We’ll be taking a break from our monthly Tuesday Tutorial blog posts but don’t worry – we’ll be back in the game come September! In the meantime, you can always shoot us an idea if you’d like us to show you how to do something specific. We’re always open to new ideas!
