In this video tutorial, you’ll learn how to design a vase in SOLIDWORKS that is based on a face.

The resulting design file can then be 3D printed for a fun, easy beginner project for students. The vase can be a unique desk accessory, special gift for mom and dad or just a simple design project to familiarize your students with some of the basic tools in SOLIDWORKS.

All you need to do is snap a side profile picture of a person, import the image into SOLIDWORKS and trace the profile of a person’s face. In this video, we use Abe Lincoln but the same technique can be used for any face.

We walk you through all these steps as well as revolving the profile and shelling it (e.g. hollowing out) so that you have a completely customized, usable vase.

Good luck!
